Important details

• Find a date at least two weeks in advance that is convenient for most of the people who wish to participate and may tie in with another occasion. You may wish to choose an event in honour of a birthday or anniversary.
• You should invite many people and be prepared for cancellations and no-shows
• When inviting ask people to let you know whether or not they can come along
• We suggest that you choose sunny weekends and holidays (check the weather forecast at weather.com) when people are often more relaxed, open minded and receptive.
• The handing-out events are good for parents and children
• The handing-out occasions can take place at the same time in more than one busy location. by about 6-15 friends at each and for about 1-2 hours.
• If you find that too many participants are at one location, you may wish to separate the group and send group/s to other nearby spots to avoid your team handing out Roses to people that have already been given them.
• When you wish to hand a Rose to someone, first get their attention, and then use (preferably) your right hand. Take one Rose slowly out of the pocket and get it in an upright position (corolla up), then open the leaf with your other hand (to about 45° level) and straighten the flower. Pay attention to quality  of handing out and not quantity of  Roses given out.
• Allow sufficient time for the recipient to enjoy the moment and understand the reasons behind  the gift
• Use calm natural motions (we suggest that you show the preparation activity openly but hiding these steps is also OK). When you have the intended recipient’s attention, make eye contact and offer the Rose with a smile! Quite often, you then share a great happy moment.
• IMPORTANT - When handing out to children (always older then 3 years), please pay attention and bend the stem’s lower part into a U to protect the child from injuring him/herself - or Others!!!
• Before the event you should send everyone planning to participate the “how to” page (link) and explain the basics in a short team meeting prior to the handing-out session.
• If possible please send local press release two or more days before the event  (uniform text published on the website)
• From past events we have learned, that a handing group of around 10 friends can get through up to 2,500 Good Roses in about 2 hours. Tell everybody to slow down. We suggest that you give each participant 200 roses to start off and add another 100 if they run out.
• If one or more of your friends is uncomfortable handing out Roses or just wants a break you may wish to ask him/her just to take photos and videos
• In any event you should assign someone to take photos and perhaps videos too. Please send in photos and videos so that we can add them to the website
• If a receiver is showing excitement and interest in participating, feel free to hand them a bundle of Roses and briefly explain to them how to hand out roses.
• Many people are sceptical and think that we are trying to get money from them. You can clam them down by saying words like”  "We do not wish to sell anything, we just buy smiles" or just “no money only smiles”
• Things to remember - Bring along sufficient amounts of Roses and Flag Roses (Roses which have labels attached), Sun screen lotion, hats, drinking water, shoulder carry bags and anything else you consider will add to comfort or safety.
• The shoulder bags should be used so that the logo is facing outwards
• You may wish to enlist one or two participants to help supply the others with additional Roses if require
• From past events, we learned that it is better if two participants hand out roses near each other, then the amount of rejections from hesitanting receivers is much smaller.

As the Roses are hand made, they may lose leaves (1-2%), please do not hand those out. We suggest that you collect these faulty Roses and at the end of the event choose a nearby tree and bend them around branches… In this way you can mark the place as a location in which a Smile Rose activity has taken place.
